Separated Accounts
- The Authority has the responsibility of monitoring financial returns where a ‘Significant Market Power’(SMP) has been identified.
- On the Isle of Man currently only Manx Telecom hold SMP.
- Manx Telecom are obliged to maintain separate accounting records for its regulated wholesale and retail operations. This is so they can demonstrate compliance with other regulatory obligations such as cost orientation and not causing a margin squeeze in specific markets.
- The aim of these obligations is to ensure that the provider is not abusing its dominant position by charging higher prices in one market so that it can subsidise other markets.
- This can have can have a negative affect on the market by reducing the level of competition in the industry.
In line with its licence conditions and associated decision notices Manx Telecom are obliged to produce and publish separated accounts on an annual basis.
