09/24: Notice Of Findings Network Incidents January 2024

ConsumerThe Communications and Utilities Regulatory Authority (the Authority) has completed its enquiries into network incidents that occurred in January 2024.
The Authority found that on these occasions Manx Telecom did not breach its regulatory obligations and no further investigation is required.
While no breach was found to have occurred, the Authority would expect Manx Telecom to proactively audit its network to ensure that alarms are configured for the relevant elements of its network. The Authority would also expect Manx Telecom to satisfy itself that automatic failover systems to rectify faults are periodically assessed for effectiveness.

08/24: Investigation into Manx Telecom’s alleged non-compliance with Universal Service Obligations for the provision of telephony services and associated tariffs

ConsumerThe Communications and Utilities Regulatory Authority (the Authority) has opened an investigation into Manx Telecom’s alleged non-compliance with its Universal Service Obligations for the provision of telephony services and associated tariffs.
Manx Telecom has Universal Service obligations (USO) to uphold, which not only ensure that Manx consumers can have access to telephony services regardless of which communications provider they subscribe to for other services, but also ensure that all consumers pay fair, uniform prices for their service.
The Authority has formally requested that Manx Telecom provide further information in connection with this investigation and will issue a further notice regarding the investigation and its findings in due course.

Direction to Manx Telecom to Fulfil Access Request

ConsumerOn the 31st January 2024 the Communications and Utilities Regulatory Authority (the Authority) issued a Direction to Manx Telecom Limited (Manx Telecom) requiring it to fulfil its regulatory obligations in respect of an Access Request from Sure (Isle of Man) Limited to enable interconnection with BT's sub-sea cable, which terminates in Manx Telecom's premises.
Manx Telecom has further been Directed to conclude the implementation of the Access Request as soon as possible and in any case no later than 3 months from the 31st January 2024.

Electrical Mast Maintenance - Beary Park - 16th January 2024

ConsumerThe Communications and Utilities Regulatory Authority has been notified of planned essential electrical maintenance work to the television mast in Beary Park. Due to the work being undertaken the mast will be subject to a complete shutdown.
The planned maintenance is expected to take place between 9am - 4pm on Tuesday 16th January 2024.
Further updates will be published if there are any changes to the works

TV Mast Maintenance - Jurby, Kimmeragh and Laxey

ConsumerThe Communications and Utilities Regulatory Authority has been notified of planned essential electrical maintenance work to the television masts to the Laxey, Jurby and Kimmeragh masts which may affect some viewers' television reception.
The planned maintenance will take place between 9am - 5pm on Tuesday 9th January 2024 and Friday 19th January 2024.
Further updates will be published if there are any changes to the works

2023 Broadcasting Survey Report: Analysis and Findings

ConsumerIn 2023, CURA conducted market research to gather information from both consumers and business to assess the current engagement with local broadcasting and methods of consuming this media. A second objective was to understand listeners’ attitudes towards, and expectations of, local radio.
The Business survey was to provide insight behind business advertising on local radio.
Following the collation of data and responses received CURA has produced a Local Broadcasting Report - Survey analysis and findings.
The raw data for both surveys will be published on CURA’s website early next week.

TV Mast Foxdale and Beary Park - No Power. RESOLVED @ 15.54PM

ConsumerThe Authority has been made aware that there is currently no power at the Foxdale and Beary Park masts due to Manx Utilities undergoing some maintenance works.
The Authority has been advised that Manx Utilities will have finished this work approx 3pm today and the power restored ( Wednesday 20th December 2023).
If viewers continue to experience problems with their picture then please contact the Authority directly on 01624 677022.
Update :-
The Authority have been advised that Manx Utilities have finished their emergency works and that the power has been restored to the Beary Park and Foxdale mast.

Beary Park Mast - Technical Issues on 12th December 2023 . RESOLVED 19th December 2023

ConsumerThe Authority has been made aware that some channels may not be working for viewers. We have investigated this matter and have been made aware that there is an ongoing issue with the transmitter in Beary Park.
The Authority is unable to provide a time frame as to when the fault will be fixed.
The Authority will provide a further update in due course.
Update - 15th December 2023
The Authority as been made aware that the fault with the Beary Park mast has reoccurred and therefore is an ongoing issue. Arqiva have advised that the transmitter is in need of a part and this is now on the way to the Isle of Man.
Unfortunately we are unable to provide a timescale to when the mast will be fixed.
The Authority will provide further updates in due course.
Further update - 19th December 2023
The Authority has today been made aware that the fault with the Beary Park mast has today been resolved.
